Pine Cone Lily

I was introduced to a new flower over the Thanksgiving holiday.  It is a Pine Cone Lily.  It is a tuber, grows on a very fleshy stem with narrow, long green foliage and has a rather sweet aroma.  The Pine Cone itself is very heavy and is squishy with lots of water; if you squeeze it you will get sprayed!
The pale bluish-lavendar flowers are Hydrangea.

I was given some pinecone lily plants yesterday. I planted them and hope that they survive. They are very beautiful. The red cone makes a wonderful picture. Some people use the liquid that comes from the plant as a beauty treatment on the skin or as a shampoo.

Have yet to see the Pinecone Lily. I will have to make a trip to my fave florist to see if they have any!
